Gaza Industrial Estate (GIE) Solar Energy Project
GIE Rooftop Solar Energy Project was commercially launched in 2021 with an overall generation capacity of 7.3 megawatts, which was the largest of its kind in Palestine and the second largest in the Middle East, providing a sustainable green source of electricity for all GIE’s facilities given the prevailing energy supply deficit within Gaza Strip. The solar energy project was partially destroyed in the year it was launched by aggression on the Gaza Strip and was rebuilt it and expanded it to 9 MW. This project contributed significantly in encouraging developing industries in GIE, increasing production capacity of factories and creating employment opportunities. GIE Solar Energy Project was selected as a winner of the prestigious 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards and the World Bank Excellence Award in 2019. Due to the the aggression on the Gaza Strip in late 2023, images of destruction to the Gaza Industrial Estate and the its Rooftop Solar Energy Project have been circulated online, however, to date PADICO has not been able to physically assess damages.
